Eumer and Jennifer Ferrer are a beautiful couple who urgently need the public’s  support. They immigrated to Memphis, Tennessee on May, 7 of 2016 from Venezuela seeking political asylum status.  Eumer is 44 years old and has recently been diagnosed with stage IV congestive heart failure and severe cardiomyopathy. After years of trying to have a baby, Jennifer is seven months pregnant with their first child.  Due to past failed pregnancies, however, her current pregnancy is labelled high-risk, preventing her from working to support her husband’s increasingly urgent medical costs.

On Thursday, February 22, 2018, Eumer suffered a heart attack after spending the night working.  The subsequent heart surgery required catheterization. As result of the heart attack, his heart was left functioning at 20% of its capacity and he was confined to the ICU for eight days.  He was released from the hospital with a series of instructions, medication and a defibrillator.

Soon after being sent home, Eumer suffered a stroke on April 3rd caused by a blood clot in his brain.  He survived another intense surgery thanks to the hard work of the nurses, doctors and staff of Saint Francis Hospital, however his heart function has been left at only 10%.

Despite a nearby hospital being able to give him a heart transplant, the pending confirmation of his immigration status has prevented his family from acquiring any form of insurance from the state of Tennessee, which would allow doctors to go through with giving him a life-saving heart.  

Eumer and Jennifer immigrated legally to the U.S. from their home country of Venezuela, where the dictatorship, political tensions, threats, persecutions and lack of safety forced them to search for a safer life for their future selves and children.  They are in process of waiting to receive a date for his interview to confirm his political asylum status in the U.S., leaving them in a limbo-like state between guest and citizen.

Eumer’s condition has been deteriorating over the past several weeks. There have been instances when his heart stopped, but doctors have been able to bring him back each time.  Despite this, he is conscious and aware. He is not ready to give up. He and his family are terrified and heartbroken, afraid that he might not live to see another day. They would do anything to save his life, however their political vulnerability has tied their hands.

On April 20th, Eumer’s family travelled to the offices of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in New Orleans, to present a document asking for the interview to be expedited, which the USCIS expressed that they could not accommodate with this type of process. Unless USCIS confirms his asylum status, he has no access to any form of public health insurance, making a heart transplant next to impossible. Baptist East Memorial Hospital is equipped and capable of giving him a new heart, but his pending immigration status is taking time that he does not have.  

We are appealing to the public for support of any kind.   We are searching for absolutely anything or anyone of influence that might be able to allow BEM Hospital to go through with the life-saving surgery.  Any advice, media attention, or direction towards additional possibilities for aid — political, medical, or regarding insurance — would be incredibly appreciated.  

Financial support will go directly to Eumer and Jennifer to help with his health if possible, and if not, with her pregnancy and finding a new place to live, as they have already lost their home. Please, if you know of any alternative way for Eumer to survive to meet his daughter, his family and friends beg for your help.

Eumer y Jennifer Ferrer son una hermosa pareja que en este momento están necesitando el apoyo del público. Ellos emigraron a Memphis, Tennessee en Mayo, 7 del 2016 desde su tierra Venezuela buscando un estatus de asilo político. Eumer tiene 44 años y recientemente se le ha diagnosticado con insuficiencia cardíaca congestiva en etapa IV y miocardiopatía severa. Después de años tratando de tener un bebé, Jennifer está embarazada con una niña y tiene ya siete meses con su primer bebé. Sin embargo dado a intentos fallidos de embarazos en el pasado, su embarazo actual es de alto riesgo, previniendola de trabajar para ayudar con los gastos urgentes médicos que no terminan.


El Jueves, febrero 22, 2018, Eumer sufrió un ataque cardíaco luego de trabajar una larga noche. Debido a esto, se realizó  una cirugía de cateterismo. A consecuencia de este ataque cardíaco su corazón quedó trabajando a un 20% de su capacidad y dejándolo en cuidados intensivos por 8 días. Justo después le dejaron ir a casa con una serie de instrucciones , medicinas y un desfibrilador externo .


Eumer sufre de un ataque cerebrovascular (ACV) el 3 de abril, causado por un coágulo en el cerebro. Con una fuerza increíble el sobrevive esta intensa cirugía gracias al trabajo del hospital Saint Francis  y su staff, sin embargo por este acontecimiento, su corazón quedó trabajando apenas en un 10%.

A pesar de tener un hospital cercano donde se le puede realizar un trasplante de corazón, su estado inmigratorio, aunque legal pero pendiente por solución definitiva,  ha impedido a su familia poder obtener cualquier forma de seguro del estado de Tennessee, el cual suministraria el requisito principal para realizar el trasplante de corazón.

Eumer y Jennifer emigraron a los Estados Unidos legalmente desde su país natal Venezuela, en donde la  dictadura, la tensión política, las amenazas, persecuciones e inseguridad, los forzó a buscar un lugar mejor donde vivir. Ellos en este momento, están en el proceso de espera para la obtención de su entrevista de asilo político, dejándolos en un limbo entre huéspedes y residentes, pero con permiso de estadía legal en los estados unidos.

La condición de Eumer se ha deteriorado gravemente las últimas semanas.  Han habido momentos en el que su corazón deja de latir, pero los doctores han podido traerlo de vuelta cada vez que ha pasado. A pesar de esto, él está atento y consciente. El no esta listo para rendirse. El junto a su familia están aterrorizados y desconsolados, con miedo a que Eumer no pueda ver otro dia mas. Ellos harían cualquier cosa, que sea necesario, para salvar su vida, no obstante su estatus ha mantenido sus manos atada.

Para Abril 20, la familia de Eumer viajó hasta las oficinas de United States Citizenship and Immigration Services(USCIS) subsede New Orleans, para entregar un documento solicitando la asignación y adelanto de la referida entrevista, a lo cual la oficina contesto que no podía proceder con este tipo de solicitud, aunque es un caso de extrema emergencia.  Amenos que USCIS confirme su estado migratorio, el no tiene acceso a ninguna posibilidad de seguro del estado, haciendo un trasplante de corazón casi imposible de obtener. El Baptist East Memorial Hospital está dispuesto a darle un corazón nuevo y también la cirugía, pero sin un seguro médico que lo respalde, es completamente imposible de realizar.

Estamos llamando al público buscando soporte de cualquier tipo.

buscamos por absolutamente cualquier cosa o por cualquier persona que pueda influenciar la decisión de trasladar a Eumer a BEM Hospital para llevar a cabo la cirugía. Cualquier consejo, asesoría, atención a los medios o una dirección hacia posibilidades adicionales siendo político, financiero, médico o relacionado a seguro seria increiblemente apreciados.

El soporte financiero iría directamente a Eumer y Jennifer para ayudar con su salud, y si no, para ayudar con su embarazo o buscando un nuevo sitio en donde vivir, ya que han perdido su hogar. Por favor, si tu sabes de alguna alternativa en la que ayude a  Eumer sobrevivir y llegar a conocer a su hija, su familia lo agradeceria muchisimo.
