Evy Tea Strike Fund

This gofundme was created to fundraise rent and utility bills for Evy Tea employees to ensure that they do not have to return to a workplace that has not committed to their wellbeing and financial stability.
Evy Tea baristas are striking for $15/hr, and for more reasonable working conditions
Evy Tea has been getting a lot of positive attention from press and investors. Many say they are happy to invest in "good people." We want to ensure that customers, investors, and media are aware of the values of the people they invest their time and money into. For the sake of space, this is a condensed list of complaints, please email [email redacted] and we would be happy to provide more detailed information.
Unfair, Unsafe Work Environment
Everyone who comes in to work at Evy Tea asks themselves - how can the coolest job ever (dogs, tea, great customers) be run by people who make me feel so unwelcome? Employees have to make it through what feels like a test of will: can you make it through verbal beration and passive aggressive behavior? If not, find another job!
Upper management seeks out ways to call a barista inadequate, sometimes resorting to personal insults, and even yelling at baristas in front of customers.
LGBTQ+ friendly? Not so much! When the corporate team is comfortable using the F-slur in the workplace, when queer workers feel tokenized for their identity, when the company makes a point to claim "LGBT friendly" to investors, but there is not a single queer person in a corporate or upper management position; this is an overt marketing strategy. If you're going to claim queer friendly, you must put your money where your mouth is.
"Best Place To Chill Out" -- the workers at Evy Tea feel the façade of a calming, welcoming environment is a farse. We don't feel safe working around upper management, and everyone who works here is incredibly stressed out!
Exploiting their workers for artistic labor - From the beginning, Evy Tea has employed artists and used their talents for the company's graphic design needs, without proper pay. We are demanding that all artistic labor be commissioned seperately and discussed with the employee.
Why We Fight for Fifteen
Evy Tea is a startup company making big moves, and growing at an exponential rate. As a company of about 20 people, every woker at Evy Tea is a team member in a startup company that directly contributes to the company's growth.
The company recently received $1 million in funding to expand their business. We believe that investments into the business should reflect investments into the workers that help the company succeed. We provide the materials for their demos, food shows, investment meetings, but our wage does not reflect our influence in the company's success.
We couldn't afford our product with our wage -- at $6 per tea, if we weren't brewing it we certainly couldn't afford to buy it.
$15/hr is a living wage -- in a city where rent is over $800 a month on average it is necessary to provide your employees a sustainable wage.
Evy Tea must show their commitment to addressing problematic workplace behavior, and they must fairly compensate their workers. We sincerely ask for your support in demanding fair business practices in our communities.
