Eye Surgery for Kitty Boo
Donation protected
This little energetic kitten was born at LAX Airport on Halloween, among several strays that occupy the area. Fortunately Boo was one of the lucky ones that was rescued from the airport. I was supper excited about finally having a companion. Having my heart filled with extra love around the house. As a good parent, I got everything ready and spent hundreds of dollars organizing toys, kitten formula, a potty, and all the necessities for a newborn kitten. I wanted him to feel safe and comfortable. He was just perfect, when I finally met him. I immediately took him to the vet, so I can know how to properly take care of a kitten. Everyone was so excited to meet him, he was small, cute, shy, and very friendly. After his examination, the veterinarian told me that unfortunately Boo wasn't very healthy. He has a rare eye condition called eyelid agensis. They told me I had to start antibiotics and lubrication of the eyes immediately. Honestly, it was heartbreaking! Knowing such a small thing, was suffering so bad. Eyelid agensis is a rare condition in animals, which is a birth defect that causes animals to be born without eyelids. This leads to blindness if not treated. Their are temporary treatments such as antibiotics to treat corneal ulcers, artificial tear ointments, and Cryoepilation to freeze the eyelashes. Currently Boo is taking Optixcare eye lube every 2-4 hours, and Erythromycin Ophthalmic Ointment, USP every 6 hours. These medication's provided do not even give the certainty that Boo wont go blind. Boo is in danger of going blind and needs immediate surgery. He needs reconstructive surgery of the eyes or else he will go permanently blind. His eyelashes are currently in his eyes which causes discomfort and leads him to scratch his eyes, as if the dryness wasn't enough. The cost of his medication's, his vet visits, and the temporary solutions to what seems uncertain is becoming unbearable and difficult to afford. We want Boo to get better so he can live a healthy life, like every other kitten/cat. He is only 2-3 weeks old, and I, as a mother, am responsible to be his temporary eyelids, along with bottle feeding him and making sure everything is ok. I am Surveillencing him 24/7 to make sure he is ok. It's becoming harder as he gets older and bigger. I apply the medication with gloves, and he hates when I'm constantly poking at his eyes. He is such a small baby, and doesn't deserve the pain caused by his birth defect. Please help save Boo's eyes and give him the life that every newborn kitten deserves!
