Keeping Century Ballroom & The Tin Table Open

We love what we do.
We love our community.
We care about the spaces whose walls have felt so much love and laughter over the years. But, like so many small businesses in our community, we are struggling to stay afloat because of the Corona virus.
Savoy Swing Club has partnered with Century Ballroom to help Century weather this unprecedented storm. We cannot thank them enough, and we’re looking forward to one ginormous celebratory Swing dance when we reach the other side!
A handful of staff, along with Alison and I, have spent eight long months inching forward, falling back, and inching forward again, in hopes of reaching the light at the end of the COVID tunnel. But as winter looms and the virus continues its destructive path, we find ourselves at a crossroads.
We know if we give up now these beautiful spaces, which were created to foster community and festivity since their inception, would sit vacant, destined to eventually end up as office space. That would be devastating.
We have been supported by you in so many ways, through gifts, buying food and drinks, and taking classes; but today we must once again ask for your help.
Until this week, we didn’t have a (semi) long-term plan with the landlords. Now we do.
Our landlords have agreed to a very generous rent reduction, but it requires a large sum upfront. The arrangement is favorable to us in the long run, but we cannot reach the short-term deadline on our own.
Our immediate need is to raise $120k by December 31, 2020, to satisfy the landlords and cover our rent through August 2021. And although we continue to do whatever we are allowed to by the state, we need this amount again to cover the projected shortfall of operating expenses between now and the end of August. It is our belief this will buy us enough time to allow science and potential vaccines to begin to return our lives to normal.
You may give at any amount! Every dollar counts and we’re not just saying that. With a gift of $10 you’d be keeping us going just like you would if you came out dancing. (Oh those beautiful days!)
And with a gift of $5,000 or more, you become a Sustaining Member of Century Ballroom & The Tin Table. A big thanks to those who have already become Sustaining Members. If you’d like to become a sustaining member, you may donate online or contact [email redacted].
While we cannot guarantee Century Ballroom will make it through this pandemic, though today I feel more hopeful than ever, I can say one thing with confidence the Century & The Tin Table community are fighters.
Please help us reach the masses as you have done in the past – and our doors will remain open for you and yours in 2021. Even if you are not able to give, please help us spread the word.
If you work for a company that has a matching gift program, please consider taking advantage of that.
With never wavering hope,
Hallie, Alison, The Savoy Swing Club & all of us at Century Ballroom & The Tin Table
