At Ovid Therapeutics , we are working every day to help find a cure for Angelman Syndrome. As Ovid's CFO, I am very excited to run the Grete Great Gallop half marathon to raise funding to support FAST and ASF who are dedicated to helping the patients and their families.
Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST) is an all-volunteer organization of families and professionals dedicated to finding a cure for Angelman Syndrome and related disorders through the funding of an aggressive research agenda, education, and advocacy. The Foundation is committed to assisting individuals living with Angelman Syndrome to realize their full potential and quality of life. Our goal is to bring practical treatment into current medical practice as quickly as possible. It is our hope that grants we fund will lead to additional research support from government agencies, other funding sources and organizations around the globe. FAST is served by two boards; the Board of Directors and the Scientific Advisory Board. Together, we are working hard to bring practical treatment into current medical practice as quickly as possible.
The Angelman Syndrome Foundation's (ASF) mission is to advance the awareness and treatment of Angelman syndrome through education and information, research, and support for individuals with Angelman syndrome, their families and other concerned parties. ASF exists to give all of them a reason to smile, with the ultimate goal of finding a cure. Named for the English pediatrician who identified it, Angelman syndrome (AS) is a rare neuro-genetic disorder that occurs in one in 15,000 live births. Characteristics include developmental delay, lack of speech, seizures, and walking and balance disorders. It is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism, due to lack of awareness. Despite these constant challenges, individuals with Angelman syndrome have a happy demeanor, laugh frequently and are often smiling.
