Meet Emily. Her story is profound, moving and shows clearly how life changing our dogs are for their autistic partners. Her beautiful autism assistance dog Lilly died tragically from a sudden illness, cruelly whipping away her lifeline to independence.

Emily, along with many others, is waiting for us to provide a new highly trained and life-changing partnership to unlock their world. Can you help?

Your Support Has Never Been More Crucial

“The empty hole in our house left by Lilly’s passing is still difficult to manage. When she came to us, we didn't really know how much difference she would make. Emily, at the time was struggling so much with daily life it was not conceivable that this little four-legged friend would help them so much. Lilly soon took over the job of accompanying them to Forbidden Planet to spend hours looking at graphic novels and anything Dr Who. She also had many trips to the cinema.

Then covid happened, and the world became a scary place, but thanks to Lilly, there was no hiding away. Emily got up and off they went for their walk each day.

Sadly in September that came to end - after giving so much, in a cruel twist of fate Lilly got very poorly, Emily took the superhero cloak that lily had been wearing and put it on themselves. They took Lilly to the vets and specialist centre to try to save her.

Unfortunately it was not to be, Lilly the wonder dog was taken from us.

Although this is a tribute to Lilly, I also want to pay tribute to Emily who transformed from a shy and nervous person into the rock Lilly needed in her final days, How they managed the situation was awesome and completely inspiring.

What I miss most is the smile and joy you brought Emily's life. Dogs for Autism really do transform young peoples lives.....

We know there will never be another Lilly, but Emily needs the support of a new assistance dog. Without more funding, we aren’t able to give Emily their new lifeline and special friend. Will you help?

Our dogs transform the lives of people with autism and their families by ensuring their physical and emotional safety. People and families can become isolated, our dogs open up their world. Behaviour and anxieties can be socially difficult to manage, our dogs provide physical interventions to manage disregulation. Social connections can be very difficult to make and maintain for autistic people - our dogs provide unconditional love, become a very best friend and provide physical and emotional affection.

The Clock is Ticking...

Emily is just one of the autistic people waiting for us to be able to train them a dog. Emily had an amazing dog; Lilly was a Dogs for Autism assistance dog who tragically contracted meningitis last year. Despite extensive medical treatment Lilly sadly didn’t make it – Emily’s lifeline and very best friend was gone.
