100 Miles for 100 Girls

100 Girls.

100 Miles.

100% donations to those in need.

Cramps. Pains. Mess.

Getting your period sucks.

Getting your period without any sanitary products to manage it is debilitating and disempowering.

About half a billion girls and women worldwide live in period poverty, without access to adequate sanitary resources or even underwear. Discrimination, discomfort, and danger of infections - period poverty creates health and social issues. Stigma, shame, and lack of menstruation and sexual health education compound the risks. Women are forced to miss work. Girls miss out on their education because they cannot go to school.

Educating and empowering girls and women is also one of the key solutions in tackling climate change, so this is an issue that affects everyone.

So what can we do to help?

I am raising money to help tackle period poverty. The money will provide sustainable, eco-friendly sanitary products, underwear, hygiene products, and sexual and health education lessons.

Karis Kids works with vulnerable families in Uganda to provide support including food, healthcare, and education to lift communities out of poverty. It is a fantastic charity that is rare in its grassroots development ethos that gives 100% of donations to the families in need, rather than to charity running costs and marketing campaigns.

However, having enabled the girls to receive an education that they never thought would happen, they are still prevented from fully benefitting from the opportunity because they are menstruating and unable to attend school or college. The charitable grant that funded sanitary products for our girls and women has unfortunately ended, so our girls are at risk of missing out on vital education.

The aim is to:

  • empower girls and young women
  • reduce the number of school days missed
  • reduce the number of teenage pregnancies
  • reduce the number of infections
  • dispel myths, taboos, and stigma associated with menstruation
  • develop healthy habits that can be passed on to future generations
  • build confidence and self-worth

100 Miles for 100 Girls

I am walking 100 miles in a week to help end period poverty for 100 vulnerable girls and women.

I will attempt to walk from Winchester to Eastbourne along the South Downs Way in only 7 days! This is a massive challenge for someone who genuinely gets out of breath walking up a flight of stairs. Not only will I have to lug myself over the distance of four marathons, I will be carrying everything on my back (just shy of the kitchen sink)! I have never done a challenge like this.

Just £7 will provide sanitary resources for a girl or woman for a whole year, including:

  • environmentally-friendly reusable sanitary pads
  • underwear
  • washing soap
  • sexual and menstrual health classes

Just £7 can give a woman back her dignity.

Please donate if you can and help me reach my goal of providing for 100 girls and women - I appreciate anything you can give!
