100 Miles For Lakeridge Swim Team
Donation protected
Hey All!
This summer I have set a big goal to try and help out a local swim team, my former club team, Lakeridge. Over the past year and a half they have gone through some very trying times, between losing two of their swimming pools (to a new housing development), and Covid-19 shutdowns.
Due to shutdowns, the team could not hold practices for almost 3 months. During this time, Sharon (team's owner & head coach) continued to pay her staff in spite of a hold on all team billing (volunteer only) and a lack of assistance from Lakeridge Tennis Club through the Payment Protection Program. The shutdowns; demolition of LTC; a worsening pool shortage in Reno; the devastation of Lakeridge's longstanding lesson program; lack of fundraising opportunities amidst the pandemic; and COVID restrictions on swimmers-per-lane made a return to training especially wonderful, but extremely challenging financially.
So with that, my goal is to swim 100 open water miles between now and the months of August or September to help raise money. No pool laps will be counted. The last and final swim to finish off the 100 miles will be a 10-12 mile swim across the width of Lake Tahoe.
I'm starting this gofundme today and will run it until the 100th mile is swum. All donations will be given to Sharon Weiss and the Lakeridge Swim Team. You will not only be helping out an incredible local swim team that is near and dear to my heart, but you will also be contributing to the awareness of the importance of swimming skills in our communities.
Future information and updates will be posted through this gofundme, my instagram (jbuchananmckay), and facebook (Jessica McKay) accounts.
Thank you for all of your love and support!
