Saints Community Development Foundation
100-mile walk to help raise awareness for Mental Health.
I left the armed forces in late 1998 and returned to St.Helens. I jumped from job to job, attempting to adjust to civilian life and becoming increasingly depressed by the day. I had no idea how terrible my situation was growing; my relationship with my then-partner had broken down, I couldn't see my children because of false claims, and everything spiralled from there. My own mental health had collapsed, and I couldn't believe I'd gone from a strong soldier to a homeless guy in two years. For a year, I slept on sofas in parks, woodlands, and other locations. My drinking had gotten out of hand, and my depression had reached a point where suicide felt like the only way out. Fortunately, my friends recognised the situation and gathered together to get me the help I required. I was able to get back on my feet and restart my life with the help of organisations. Among those organisations was the Saints Community Foundation. The veteran's side restored my faith and hope, and they have accompanied me on my journey ever since. Providing me with trips out and support when required, but most importantly, the foundation demonstrates what can be accomplished when people work together to give back to the community.
Saints Community Development Foundation (SCDF) works in and around the local community.
Within the community, they cover topics such as rugby and multi-sport coaching, mental health, fitness, healthy eating, aiding local veterans by providing food and basics to veterans' families, assisting in the fight against crime, raising suicide awareness, and much more.
To raise funds for this wonderful organisation, myself, my daughter Leah, and Carl Day are going to walk 100 miles.
All businesses that will be sponsoring the walk will have their logo printed on the Purple T-Shirts worn throughout the 100-mile walk.
