100 Portraits for 100 Years

We believe ALL immigrants deserve dignity, respect, and recognition. In the face of fear, discrimination, and scapegoating, we refuse to stay silent. Will you join us?

Who We Are:
  • UPRISERS® is a female founded lifestyle brand dedicated to using fashion as a vehicle to build a more sustainable future. We are uniting a collective of change makers who are driven by purpose, inspired by tradition, and energized by possibility. To rise up — it takes us. We Are UPRISERS.
What is #WeAre1924: Chapter Two?
  • Our #WeAre1924 campaign first launched on May 26, 2024 to commemorate 100 years since the racist Johnson-Reed Act of 1924 was passed. This immigration act restricted and even outright banned immigration from non-Western European countries and explicitly promoted racial homogeneity.
  • We feel called to grow our project to honor the voices, stories and legacies of U.S. immigrants in the face of increased stereotyping and persecution, especially under the current Administration’s hostile, punitive stance toward immigrants.
  • We wish to capture 100 portraits and 100 stories from across the U.S., starting in regions of the country that aren’t often nationally recognized: the Southwest, the South, and the Midwest.
  • We also wish to honor and support the activists and communities who have been tirelessly working to protect U.S. immigrants most vulnerable to discrimination and deportation,
  • Goal: Defy the pressure to hide, assimilate and stay quiet, celebrate our country’s rich diversity, and give to organizations on the front lines.
What We’ll Do:
  • Photography & Storytelling Project: In collaboration with hww.work, we will collaborate with local photographers in Phoenix, Minneapolis, St. Louis, New Orleans, and Nashville to capture a collective 100 portraits and 100 stories of U.S. immigrants of all backgrounds and generations.
  • Supporting Local Organizations: We’ll donate to local grassroots groups providing critical support and resources to immigrants in each of the five cities in our project.
  • Kickoff Cities: We’ll start our tour in Phoenix & Minneapolis, with plans to expand to the remaining cities as we reach each of our fundraising tier goals. 1) Phoenix: Photographer Mazhar Badani to support the work of Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project. 2) Minneapolis: Photographer Krizia Gaile to support the work of a local MN advocacy organization.
How You Can Help:
  • Donate to bring visibility to immigrant experiences and support local efforts.
  • Amplify: Share the campaign to spread the word and strengthen our collective power.
Donation Tier Goals
  • $14K: Fund photographers Krizia Gaile and Mazhar Badani and the Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project and a local MN advocacy organization.
  • $35K: Fund photographers in the remaining three cities.
  • $40K: Create a limited-edition zine.
  • $45K: Create a community event.

The time to act is now. Stand with us. Stand with immigrants. Join #WeAre1924: Chapter Two today!
