100 WALK 100 for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA)

* All money raised goes to fund clinical research to improve the lives of those affected by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) *

Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic neuromuscular condition that causes muscle weakness and wastage due to the loss of motor neurons. It is a degenerative disease, which if left untreated is fatal.

Before 2016, without intervention, most children with SMA Type 1 were expected to live for less than two years. About 1 in 10,000 children are born with SMA and there have been amazing advances in treatment for the condition in the past few years, but very few people know about the disease. Rupert and Oscar, both of who have SMA type 1, are on a mission to change that!

In June 2023, their parents, along with some incredible volunteers, are taking on a 3-day challenge, attempting to walk the entire length (over 100 miles) of the Cleveland Way, to help raise funds in support of RALLY ROUND RUPERT - an SMA Charity that provides financial support to advance clinical research into this devastating condition. By raising funds and awareness, we hope we can make the lives of so many like Rupert and Oscar better.

Thank you for all your support!
