100km Erg for Nick Spillman
Donation protected
Hello All,
On September 15th one of my best friends, Nick Spillman, suffered a stroke.
Nick was rowing on the erg at the gym when an abnormal blood vessel in his brain burst. The abnormal blood vessel was an Dural arteriovenous fistula. This caused intense bleeding on the right side of his brain that caused a stroke and ultimately the loss of movement on his left side. He had brain surgery that closed the bleed and removed some of the blood clot. We are unsure how long he will be in the hospital doing rehab, but he has been relearning and re-teaching his left arm and leg to work again (simple movements like scratching his head and standing/walking).
At this point in time it is undetermined when he’ll be able to go back to work/ be able to go home from the hospital.
On October 4th I will be doing a 100km erg piece to raise money to help Nick and his family out. I will be starting the piece in the early morning on Sunday and hopefully finishing by the mid afternoon. The event will be live streamed if anyone is interested in watching at any point. The fundraiser will be open October 4th to October 11th. I was going to say let us all help out and put a smile back on his face but clearly that it is not possible for Nick not to be smiling!
