10-13 Help Officer Bushrod and his family

Donation protected
Officer Michael Bushrod started his career on August 6, 2015 as a New York City Correction Officer. He underwent training at the Correction Academy before being assigned to GRVC. He excelled in his role, earning recognition for his dedication and leadership skills. He quickly established himself as a respected member of the team, known for his unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and professionalism.

On July 23, 2018 he was transferred to North infirmary Command (NIC) , where he worked housing area 2B ( enhanced restraint unit) and continued to demonstrate his exceptional work ethic and dedication to his fellow officers. Despite the challenges of the new environment, Officer Bushrod remained focused on his commitment to upholding the values of being a correction officer.

Deciding to be close to his beautiful children he transferred to the Vernon C. Bain Center , a move that allowed him to better balance his career and personal life. Unfortunately, on November 10, 2021 officer Bushrod was involved in a use of force incident that resulted in a critical injury to his left leg causing him to have a leg full of blood clots and two that traveled to his lungs. He underwent emergency surgery to attempt to repair the damage and began a rigorous rehabilitation program to regain strength and mobility.

Despite his attempts to return to work on medically monitored restrictions (MMR) , the physical demands of his job made it challenging for him to fully come back in the same capacity due to him being placed on blood thinners indefinitely. The Health Management Division (HMD) physician would not approve him to return to work on light duty. In light of the physician's decision, Officer Bushrod faced the difficult reality that he was unable to continue his duties as a correction officer.

The New York City Department of Corrections moved to medically separate Officer Bushrod from his position on November 27, 2023. He found himself without a clear plan for the future, not able to provide for his family at this time due to the separation.

Many of us can relate to unexpected changes in our lives. Where after being injured during a UOF we are penalized facing separation for doing our jobs.

Let’s support our brother in blue during this challenging time. Whatever you can give to support is greatly appreciated.

Thank you In advance for the love and support
