AJ Bell Great Northern Run - Memory of Dave.
I am running my FIRST EVER 10k race on Sunday May 26th 2024…
At first, I signed up for this race as a great way to push myself physically and mentally, as I am beginning my fitness journey. Now, it is much more. I get to raise money for a charity that is close to myself & my families heart and can help so many people in and around Salford.
After losing my Uncle Dave to suicide last year, I am determined to help raise awareness to mental health. His death really came as a shock to me and my family. I was completely unaware of his struggles and believed he was happy. I wish we could have done more to help him and stop him before it was too late.
Raising money for Mind, ensures that there are services available to those in need. This includes supported housing, crisis helplines, drop-in centres, employment schemes, counselling and befriending.

Important facts to acknowledge:
• 75% of deaths by suicide are male.
• 115 people die by suicide in the UK every week. • 29% of those who haven't done so say they are "too embarrassed" to speak about it, while 20% say there is a "negative stigma" on the issue.
• 40% of men have never spoken to anyone about their mental health.
