11yo Sawyer Ewan Fights for his Life

Friday evening Dec 29 at 8:30pm Sawyer had a seizure. This has led to multiple more seizures and life flight to Salt Lake City where his care team has been unable to stop the seizures. Sawyer is now in a medically induced Coma and as the doctors are running more tests his mom has not left his side. Many people have reached out asking to help and for now the rising costs of them staying in Salt Lake City, food expenses, travel expenses for his dad, step mom, and step dad and driving his little brother Emmett to come visit are going to add up. He has a long road ahead as they navigate that terrifying and terrible journey.
Most updated information on Sawyer's condition via Mom's ( Aurelia Witham Ewan's) post.:
We were transferred to PICU because they couldn’t stop the seizures and they were getting worse. Every suggestion I have received from everyone I have inquired with the specialists and they have already ran a test and ruled out or they are waiting for the results they sent to Mayo. A lot of the result will be back tomorrow. While in the PICU they gave Sawyer a high dose of Versed bolis then kept increasing it with no success. The Nuro doc said his seizures were now becoming one without and break so they put him in a Pharmacologically induced comp (aka:Medically induced coma)
They will be putting in an arterial line to be able to track many things easier and more accurate. There are risk with all of this but the team here seems 3 steps ahead of everything.
Next step is a plasma transfusion dialysis but they need to get him to a therapeutic dose where his brain is “resting”/stopped the seizures. Because when they do the dialysis it will wipe out all the medication as they are putting in other people’s blood etc. Goal is to in a way reset his brain to try and stop the seizures.
They will also be doing a full body MRI. Looking for many things one would be a tumor.
Tomorrow we will have so much information back from the lumbar tests and blood panels. Genetic test won’t come back for weeks. Then plan to do another genetic test that they will take samples from Levi and I. But there are so many more that will take weeks to come in.
They did get some of the viral tests back that they could have treated with medicine but they were negative. Any other viral infections are untreatable. This means they could help support Sawyers body to try to get through the virus but there is no medication they can use to treat it. If his body can’t fight it he will pass.
They said he will be in medical coma at minimum for 3 days.
He is so strong. Every medical professional that has helped Sawyer has fallen in love with him. Before or after their shifts they come by to check on him and let me know they are praying etc. I thought he was special, kind, resilient, determined before but I have a new respect for my beautiful boy! ❤️
