11th Grade Class Trip to DC
Donation protected
Who: 12 deserving high school students
What: Class trip to Washington, DC
When: May 17-19
Why...
This year has been challenging for our country. The political climate is like nothing we’ve witnessed in our lifetime. It is also a critical time for our young people. In just two years, they will vote in the midterm elections for those who will make policies that affect our everyday lives. In light of these realities, EBC High School for Public Service believes it is vital to take our students to the nation's capitol so they can be a part of history as it unfolds.
For years it was a part of the U.S. History curriculum that all juniors would travel to Washington D.C. in order to bolster the learning that was happening in the classroom. They saw national treasures and learned new, interesting facts about our country's history. However, we have not been able to host that trip in almost three years. The most pressing reason the trip hasn’t happened is financial hardship. We are a Title I school. Therefore, most of our students eat free lunch and come from parents working 2-3 jobs to try and make ends meet; sending their child to D.C. is a luxury they just can not afford.
Many of my students have already started fundraising efforts at school. In just one week the students have been able to raise $125. But we need your help. Please help me take 12 of my most dedicated and determined students to Washington D.C. I may not be able to raise enough to cover every student, but I want to at least match what they are able to raise. Any amount is more than appreciated and if you are willing, please spread the word.
How: The trip is $350 per student. With your contribution we just might be able to give them the kind of experience they'll never forget.
Thank you so much for your help!
