12 Years… Still Paralyzed… Getting Older…SCI-Fit

12 years ago I had no idea that by midday I would be paralyzed for the rest of my life. January 11, 2012 at The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley California during a routine aerial rehearsal I fell… breaking my back and becoming paralyzed from the waist down. From that point on I worked hard to try to maintain some semblance of health in my body. Being 46 at the time I was quite old in a sense, and my body did not embrace the paralysis as well as it may have if I was 20 years old. Nevertheless, I made many strides and achievements that the doctors felt would not happen. In March of 2020 Covid hit and all of my resources shut down as did my body. My bone density worsened, my scoliosis worsened, and my nerve pain became almost unbearable. I felt very hopeless until in May of 2022 I adopted this little senior dog Yuki, that gave me hope and joy. She was riddled with all kinds of medical issues, but you would’ve never known it. Observing that in her, gave me the strength to apply for some funding from NorCalSCI to go back to SCI-Fit Sacramento and begin helping my body to become strong again. That funding is coming to an end this month and although all of you have helped me graciously throughout these 12 years, I thought I would reach out one more time. I’d like to continue at least two hours a week for the next six months. I have attached a GoFundMe and also SCI-Fit Sacramento can be contacted directly. I love you all and thank you for the support over these challenging last 12 years. Yuki has passed away but has left me with a new lease on this life that although is incredibly painful and challenging, it is the only one that I have. I will continue to do what I can to stay in this life and to give to others that may need me. Much love and gratitude Tresa
