12 yr old Amelia Beesley's Brain Surgery Recovery

Donation protected
It has been a parent's worst nightmare the past couple of weeks. Little Amelia Beesley went in for an eye checkup due to some blurry vision. All assumed that some glasses might be needed. This check up ended in an immediate trip to the hospital. They found that she had a large Craniopharyngioma tumor in her brain, which has caused 30% atrophy of her optic nerves.

She went into an emergency surgery to remove this golf ball sized tumor and is now thankfully in recovery. the outcome was a good one, however, many more tests and MRI's are needed. This GoFundMe is to help cute little Amelia with her rehabilitation, hospital bills, and recovery. We would sincerely appreciate your donations and support.

Thank you.

8/17/2021 update

Amelia had many small strokes, due to the strokes, she has some deficits that doctors believe can be improved with therapies. This qualified her for a program called Rehab without Walls. They provide occupational, physical and speech therapy in our homes. She will have therapy for 24+ hours per week.

As for her tumor, the surgeons were not able to remove all of it, there is still a large section on her brainstem. Because the brainstem is so sensitive the remaining tumor is inoperable. This type of tumor is malignant, which means it will continue to grow again. For this reason they suggest radiation treatments.

They don't think the pituitary is intact or it isn't functioning. This requires her to take several synthetic hormones: hydrocortisone (stress hormone), thyroid, and dessopressin (antidiuretic.) Eventually, they will probably give her human growth hormone to help her grow a little more, and progesterone and estrogen.

One of the strokes was in the deep right brain, and affected the basal ganglia, which plays a role in motor function, executive function, speech, behaviors and emotions. The second stroke affected the right frontal lobe, which is responsible for higher cognitive functions such as memory, emotions, problem solving, social interaction, motor function and impulse control.

Her optic nerves were severely damaged.  Right now she doesn't have any peripheral vision, depth or contrast.  They dont think she'll get any of it back and they can't do anything for it. She will have to learn ways to compensate. Because of all of these factors again, she will need a lot of physical therapy and medications.

Again, words can not describe how grateful we are to everyone for everything you have done for us and the donations that have already been made. However, we are reopening this gofundme to help her and her family with recovery costs as it is going to be a long road ahead. Thank you!
