14-year-old needs a new start

T is a 14-year-old boy who needs an emergency move from Indiana to Florida. He is currently living with his mother, who kicked him out of her house a week ago after they had a fight. Although T is back at home now, the situation is a ticking time bomb. In addition to how horrifying it is to picture a young teenager homeless and on his own, T is also gay, which increases his risk factors.
A little bit of background. T’s mother is an emotionally abusive person who has broken relationships with all her children. T’s older sister – Michelle (pictured above with her twin brothers and younger sister in 2009) – left home at 15 to escape the toxicity and eventually got married and had two children of her own. Michelle’s younger sister also left home at 15 to escape her mother, and moved in with Michelle for a while. About a year ago Michelle had to rush back to Indiana to get guardianship of T’s twin brother, J, and to get him away from their mother. A year later, and J is flourishing in the stable, loving home that his sister welcomed him into.
But kids are expensive, and Michelle and her husband were already pinching pennies for their own two small children before they took Justin into their home. Now, a year later, and J’s twin needs to get out of the same toxic situation, and it needs to happen quickly. Michelle desperately needs support to offset the cost of lost wages (she has to take unpaid days off work), renting a car (because her old beater won’t make it to Indiana), picking up her brother, getting him back to Florida, and getting him situated.
J is currently sleeping on a futon and Michelle needs bunkbeds to be able to fit both boys in one room. When J came to them last year, he came with nearly nothing; he needed clothes and basic school supplies. I am sure that T’s situation will be similar. Additionally, Michelle’s husband has been hit hard by our current economic crisis – like many people have – and his hours have been severely cut at work.
I realize that right now a lot of people are suffering financially and that you might not be able to give to the fund. However, if you’d like to help in another way, it would be awesome if you could share this on your social media. Thank you!
