UPDATE 07/08/2023:
Hi everyone! Axels mom and brother wanted to give you all an update.
Maria, Anner, and especially Axel, wanted to give everyone who has donated, helped, and written him encouraging messages, a huge thank you.
He is awake. He is talking. He is happy to see everyone who has visited him. He has a long road to recovery, and he’s anxious to start walking again. But like we tell him, he’s stronger than ever.
Just a couple of months ago, we did not know what the future held for Axel. We didn’t even know if we would be able to celebrate another birthday with him. And today, we are celebrating 17 years of his life! We are all truly blessed and thankful for the community and the help.
Thank you Karine Patino for helping organize the donation at Mimi’s and helping us with anything we needed, for Mimi allowing us to do the donations at her cafe, for the group of moms who helped me with the meal trains, food donations+connecting us to social workers, for the of moms started a prayer chain, and even organized a candle lit vigil. You all are truly appreciated.

Hi, thank you for clicking on this gofundme. My name is Kaitlynn, a family member of Axel, and I have created this cause to help Axel and his mother with hospital bills and with other expenses. On April 26th, at around 2:30pm, Axel Cantor, age 16, was in a horrible car accident that has left him fighting for his life. He was on his way back to Fox Lane High school from BOCES, located in Yorktown, when the car he was in collided head on to oncoming traffic. He was sitting in the back seat of his friends car, a two door Honda Accord, when it collided head on with a mini school bus. Axel is a junior, and had gotten a ride from BOCES back to FL from his senior friend. He was badly injured in the accident. He’s currently fighting to get better. He was in surgery for over five hours. He is currently in critical state. Axel is on a ventilator, has a brain hemorrhage, collapsed lungs, liver hemorrhage, and two broken legs.
Axel was studying to become an auto body tech at BOCES. He has been into cars for a couple of years now, and has even attended local car shows and meets. Not only is he a full time student, but he also works at Jumpz/Sky Zone in Mount Kisco.
Axel is always seen with a big smile on his face. He spends his free time studying, playing with his PlayStation, eating, playing soccer or basketball, and going to the gym. Whatever he was doing, he was usually with his cousins or friends. Axel is very family oriented and comes from a big loving family. He grew up with many cousins around his age, where they all have created a strong bond. He is also close to his older brother, Anner, and two younger siblings.
He comes from a loving home. His mother is a single mom of 4 who works incredibly hard for her children. Axel and his older brother, Anner, are so caring that they help their mother out in any way possible. They are a strong family who is facing a difficult moment right now.
The money being donated will go strictly to Axel and his medical needs, and to help his mother in these difficult times.
By donating to this cause, you are giving Maria, Axels mother, a sense of relief, knowing she can stay by his side without worrying that she will fall behind on her bills. Thank you again for your time. Please have Axel, Maria and her other children in your thoughts and prayers. Along with the other families and victims that have been affected by this tragedy.
