Dear Magic Community!
I (Thiago Rodrigues - @snapcaster) heard Pedro's story from Thiago Saporito (who knows him personally) and decided to reach out for the community to see if we can help him. I asked him to write a small text introducing himself and telling us about the situation, so here you can get to know him!
Hello Everyone!
My name is Pedro Perrini, a 16 years old that have been playing with magic cards since I was 8! I grew up hearing histories of PV, Carlos Romão, Willy Edel and all this brazilian players that made history at the Pro Tour, and always asked myself if someoneday I was going to make it at least once.
It might sound silly, but everytime I watch coverage I use to imagine being there playing against the best! To put my dream into motion, I’ve been taking magic more seriously for the last 3 years, and I convinced myself that if I was going to give myself the best shots at qualifying. Since then I’ve been reading every article, watching videos and consuming the most content I can (and my school obligations allow me to), to improve my plays and get better.
Being young it has not been easy to get all the cards I needed for my decks as you can imagine, but despite that I managed to finish 26th at my very first Grand Prix last year in São Paulo!
After that I decided to invest myself even more, and started to also play on Magic Online, where there were weekly opportunities to qualify. And it was there, at a Standard MCQ 2 weeks ago that I got my first qualification for a Mythic Championship!
I could not believe what I had just achieved, and despite feeling in heaven my world fell apart when I was informed that wizards no longer guarantees a plane ticket for the winners (There was not actually a plane ticket, but a sunday tournament that guaranteed a 1500 dolars prize to cover for the trip's expenses). Coming from a not very wealthy family in Brazil, being under age and with the bad economic situation the country is in, me and my parents can’t afford to pay a plane ticket to Barcelona this time of the year, and it seems wizards is not allowing for deferrals neither.
I started selling my not so big collection, but even if I sell everything it won't be enough to cover for the trip's expenses.
My friends saw that and suggested that I started a gofund to help me achieve my dream!
If you want to help, I will be forever thankful!
