16-Month Old Hilarie's Cancer Care
This is a very hard story to tell.
16 months ago our family was blessed to welcome beautiful little red-headed Hilarie to our family when our niece gave birth on June 17, 2015. She has been the driving force for her young mom Sara to blossom into an amazing mother and person. Hilarie has always been a sweet, cute, and funny little girl that brings joy to all of us.
On September 13th she was starting to walk and standing without issue and was thriving. We enjoyed a beautiful family Thanksgiving dinner on October 8th with a smiling happy little girl. On October 13th she suddenly was not crawling, rolling, or moving her legs. Her mom and grandma brought her to emergency terrified of what this could mean. X-rays and bloodwork were done showing no signs of injury or infection. An emergent MRI was done which identified the shocking and devastating news of a massive neuroblastoma tumor in her abdomen incorporating her spinal cord and major blood vessels.
Within 24 hours this sweet innocent little baby underwent many procedures including radiation treatment, a central line insertion, bone marrow biopsy, tumor biopsy, and the start of chemotherapy. She will be on chemotherapy for the next 24 weeks with the intention to shrink the tumor and render it inert.
As a nanny, Sara will be unable to work while Hilarie is on chemotherapy because her immunosuppressed baby will be highly susceptible to illness. This will be a very long winter filled with many hospital visits and we want to support Sara during this financially difficult and emotionally exhausting time. Any amount can go a long way to help while her baby fights this long battle with cancer. We are extremely appreciative to anyone able to help.
