1971 Datsun 240z Restoration Project

My name is Rio Fleming, an incoming senior at MBHS in San Luis Obispo County. Over the past year, I have been feeding my interest and furthering my experience in the automotive field by taking auto classes offered by my school. I have also been interning at Jim’s Auto in Morro Bay where I have learned not only mechanics but the business industry.
To advance my experience even more, I have taken on a big project for my senior year and the years to come after, restoring my grandfather's 1971 Datsun 240z that has been unused since my dad drove it back in his high school days. This car holds an abundance of significance to my family, and I am looking very forward to spending hours working on it and using it as a learning opportunity for myself and my classmates who will be working alongside me. MBHS has a wonderful, recently updated shop, with a wealth of tools and lifts. However, over the past year, my class has been at a loss of cars to work on, so we have a real difficulty finding local projects.
The 240z is the perfect opportunity for my class to use a learning subject not only just for mechanics but for educating ourselves on the function of classic cars. This project will be both rewarding and strenuous, but with the money I have raised from working and with the help from the community, my peers and I will have the learning opportunity of a lifetime to restore a classic car to its former glory.
