Life's A Beach--Sandy Relief Fund

Donation protected

Think life's a bitch? It doesn't have to be.

We need to remind those affected by Hurricane Sandy that although life can be harsh, it can also be pretty grand. Keeping spirits up in times like this takes good hearts, kind souls, and dollar bills.

The donations collected here will go towards all Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. They will pay for gas used in generators pumping water out of flooded homes in Rockaway Beach. They will pay for diapers and formula going to babies in need. They will pay for hot meals going to families who no longer have kitchens. They will pay for new mattresses and bed clothes and warm blankets. They will pay for walls that need to be rebuilt and cars that need to be towed. They will pay for volunteers to get from their homes to places like Rockaway Beach, Staten Island, and Red Hook---those hardest hit by Sandy.

Friends, family, and those I have never met---I went down to help relief efforts in the Rockaways the same week that Sandy hit. I cannot express how much aid the people there and in other hard hit areas need. There are residents of the Rockaways who don't even have access to water. Water. For drinking. Not to mention the fact that countless residents are without power and heat. Or that supermarkets and corner stores---the ones that are still standing---are just empty boxes now.

While there I visited an assisted living community that houses dozens of elderly citizens. The residents had all been sitting in the dark and cold for four days by the time I got there. Unless you've been to a third world country, or visited New Orleans post Katrina, then you have never seen anything like what I saw in the Rockaways post Sandy. Visit our homepage Got Beaches? for more images.

If you can afford to donate, please please please do. Any little bit helps. I will personally be making trips back and forth between Williamsburg, Brooklyn and the Rockaways every week delivering food, supplies, and man power but I need your help to make these trips and other relief efforts possible.

Want to donate physical items? They can be dropped off or sent to our pals at Tutu's: 25 Bogart Street, Brooklyn, NY 11206.
