Cristina Albert for 2014 Paralympics
Hello, My name is Cristina Albert I was born in Romania with several birth defects, amniotic band syndrome and clubfoot and put up for adoption. When I was three years old my mother from Colorado adopted me. Once I arrived in Colorado I had several reconstructive surgeries to correct the deformities in my foot. At age 12 my orthopedic surgeon suggested another corrective surgery that consisted of a metal plate and seven screws to be inserted in my left foot in order to straight and flatten out my foot. Unfortunately I developed a bad Staph infection a few months later. Several more surgeries and IV antibiotics followed but to no avail. In January of 2002 the decision to amputate my left leg below the knee was made. Since my amputation I have immersed my self in the sports I loved before the surgery but snowboarding has always been my number one love.
I am currently on the road to the
2014 Paralympics in Sochi Russia. It was only a couple of years ago that I
started snowboarding competitively. Since then I have competed in three World Cup
events in Canada, as well as one in France. In August of 2011 I competed in a World Cup event in New
Zealand for their Winter Games and won a bronze medal. I am currently on the United States Paralympic Team. As of Febuary 4th it was officially announced that I was nominated for the Paralympic Team to represent the United States in Sochi Russia.
As you may know the expenses of competing are great, there's travel, fees, equipment, and accommodations. I am in need of Sponsors and donations to help me along the way. My goal is to raise $6,000 US for the 2012/2013 season. Any help is greatly appreciated. And go Team USA!
Thank you for your consideration,
Cristina Albert
