The origin of The Healing Fields has been a long time coming.  As a kid, I saw the movie "The Killing Fields.'' I never knew the impact it had on me until I visited Cambodia for the very first time in 2018 on my birthday.  Fortunately, my Dad was already there in Cambodia awaiting my arrival. My dad and I have been working on healing our relationship for over a decade.  I had my work cut out for me. You see, I was a drug addict, heavy into heroin and crack cocaine.  I stole everything from him. I ended up homeless and eventually in jail and yet he was the only one who sent money to me while I was incarcerated.  As time went on, I got clean and was able to hold on to a job for more than 3 months. While together in Cambodia, we bonded on a whole new level!  We walked "The Killing Fields" together - he told me things that were horrifying; the things he and my mother had to do to get to America.  It was a miracle! We instantly HEALED and the burden was lifted.  I felt so free. Naturally, if I were to ever open my own school.... I would call it "The Healing Fields." To pay homage and tribute to all that endured the genocide. Being a teacher I have learned so much about myself and with that self-knowledge I learned to heal myself.   Then I learned how to HEAL others and with that...THE HEALING FIELDS was born! One day we will open up another "Healing Fields" in Cambodia.  My hope is to not erase what happened in "The Killing Fields" but to help dissolve the stigma and help with the development of such a beautiful country.
