In Memory of a LEGEND, Laurie Piper

No matter how long you knew Laurie for, guaranteed he left an impression on you. He was a man that loved freedom and adventure and lived life HIS way, to the fullest. At 76 years old he was as strong as an ox. He loved sailing, hang gliding and his family. Always happy to share a rum and ginger ale and have great conversations with you (well at least when the work was completed.... for the most part lol)

Personally I looked up to him in so many ways.  He seemed to always have the answer to everything. Once he noticed I was starting to bald so  he suggested I drink kelp powder to stop it.  He taught me and everyone he knew so many valuable life lessons. From sailing advice to natural remedies he was full of knowledge. But more than anything, he taught us all how to live simply by always being himself and just living life. He lead by example and changed so many lives in the process.

Laurie always had a passion for the ocean. After years of working on fishing boats and charters he decided to buy a sail boat, an instruction manual for a sextant and just figure out how to navigate. Well where most of us would have failed, he succeeded. After sailing around the world once he went home to Australia and started building his own sail boat, The Atlanta from scratch. After 3 years of work The Atlanta was finally sea worthy. Laurie took his oldest daughter Jana and went on his second voyage around the world. During his 7 year world tour, he was documented, he won countless races and taught Jana plenty of valuable lessons.  (Check out his YouTube channel to see his documentary "Atlanta's Child"  or watch him soar through the sky on his hang glider).

Around 2008 he set off on his third adventure around the world. However, this time he only made it half way. Laurie sailed to Koh Lanta, and found Nim the new love of his life.  He built a little business and also fell in love with the island and it's community. 4 years later baby Julian was born, adding to his legacy.

We are trying to raise this money to help support Nim and Julian over the next few months. Between hospital bills, funeral expenses, and the long bureaucratic procedures to access Lauries funds, we could REALLY use your help right now.

The hospital bills and funeral costs alone are 150,000 baht or about $5,000 usd. Even though this is a large amount we CAN reach the goal. Every little bit helps if we all come together. After donating, or even if you can't donate, PLEASE SHARE THIS POST on your social media accounts to help spread the word and hopefully receive more donations from people that otherwise would never see this campaign.

Thank you soooooooooo much in advance.  Nim and Julian (Jules) will be forever grateful for your help during this tragic time.

In loving memory of  Captain Laurie Piper. You will be missed but never forgotten. A true legend of a man that we can all learn from even after his passing. His legacy lives on through us, his friends and family.
