Dante Austin Memorial Fund

My son, Dante Austin, lost his battle with depression on June 7th, 2019. Dante was many things to different people. The community’s response to this news reflects that. He was a son, brother, uncle, friend, colleague, and mentor. To our family, he was a constant source of inspiration. He set goals and accomplished them, destroying any obstacles that surfaced in the process. He was a role model to his siblings, cousins, and especially to his nieces and nephews, who he loved beyond measure. Dante had an infectious smile. He walked into a room and you could feel the love pour in immediately. He was always available to be a listening ear or shoulder to cry on for anyone in need. Deeply invested in his community, Dante joined the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office and rose to the rank of Deputy Sheriff. In the process, he was appointed as the office’s first LGBT Liaison. In that capacity, he worked to change the office’s policies and practices as it related to interactions with the LGBT community. By all accounts, Dante was a fearless activist for social change. Passionate about social justice, he advocated for all members of marginalized groups. He despised inequality. The community can continue to cherish and uphold his legacy by doing everything it can to uproot injustice and discrimination. This loss is huge for the community, but his legacy will live on. My family is devastated by this news. Please consider contributing to assist the family as it works to cover the unexpected costs arising from this tragedy. Thank you.
