Help families seeking asylum
Tax deductible
Conditions in Matamoros, Mexico and Brownsville, Texas are very difficult for families seeking asylum.
Team Brownsville is a 501(c)(3) charity managed by local volunteers and supporters from across the US and around the world.
Together we work to help asylum seekers who find themselves in Brownsville, Texas and at the Brownsville/Matamoros international bridges. currently there are hundreds of families waiting in Matamoros cross the bridge (the legal way) and request asylumn at the port of entry. Many are living in the sweltering heat on a concrete plaza in Matamoros.
This summer, temperatures have regularly exceeded 100 degrees. In this heat, refugees need water. It takes about 5 liters of water per day to keep a person from dehydrating.
Currently Team Brownsville volunteers are dragging carts full of bottled water from Texas to Mexico over the pedestrian bridges as often as we can find money to buy the water.
We are serving two meals per day at the bridge and dinner each evening at the bus station in Brownsville to asylum seekers just released by Border Patrol.
Please consider what you can give to help.
Suggested donations:
$1000 - Keeps drinking water pouring at the bridge for two weeks.
$750 - Sponsors a week of breakfast at the bridge
$500 - Sponsors a week of dinners at the bus station
$250 - Covers the cost of water for a single family for the expected stay at the bridge of 8 weeks
$150 - Covers the cost of diapers at the bus station and the bridge for one week
$100 - Covers the cost of dinner ingredients for dinner for one night - prepared and served by volunteers
Thank you
