One Love: Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf
Donation protected
This past June 2019 the Southwest Deaf Optimist Club traveled to The Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf in Mandeville, Jamaica (the Knockpatrick location). During our time volunteering we took note of our surroundings and saw what was extremely lacking within the school. Due to these reasons we as an organization want to provide the school with as much support and resources as possible. Knockpatrick is a residential school that accommodates an estimated 80 students and 20 teachers. The school is in desperate need of basic tools for learning as well as necessities of living. The teachers are in dire need of textbooks, school supplies (paper, pens, notebooks..) but most importantly, computers and printers. The world is technologically enhancing, and in order for these children to be able to thrive in a hearing world they need to have an understanding of technology. The computers will help the teachers further demonstrate the usage of technology in today’s world as well as help the teachers research and gain knowledge on teaching techniques for deaf education which they currently do not have access to. Our current goal is to gather funding for 10 printers, a year’s worth of ink and 16 laptop computers. These computers will be placed in each classroom, the principal's office, the nurses station and the guidance counselor office. The Southwest Deaf Optimist Club will be traveling to Jamaica in the summer of 2020 to personally bring all items purchased through the help of those who donate. To learn more about the school press the link below or copy https://www.cccdjamaica.org into your web browser. ALL PROCEEDS WILL BE GOING TOWARDS SUPPLIES FOR THE SCHOOL. We can provide donors with our 501-C3non profit number for your personal tax write- off.
