Cina Combats Colon Cancer

Rod is entering his 21st year of teaching 5th grade at St. Joseph’s in West St. Paul. It is a passion of his, and his students absolutely love Mr. Cina! He is married to Kala and has a 16-year-old son, Edward. Kala works at the VA Hospital in the retail store and has been there for the past several years.
Rod enjoys painting miniature models of planes, fantasy football, and playing Historical American Civil War games on a 3D terrain table. He also enjoys catering to his son’s adventure outings to the Mall of America and paying for lime scooters for Edward to cruise around Harriet Island.
At the end of June of 2019, Rod was diagnosed with advanced Colon Cancer that has metastasized to his liver. He began treatment on Monday, July 15th, and continued chemotherapy over the next 4-6 weeks. His surgery to remove the tumors that are located in his colon and on his liver were successful. At his last scan, they detected a spot that put him into another 10 rounds of chemo. He just celebrated his 50th birthday, and he hopes to return to teaching after the holidays.
We are setting up this fund for the Cina family to help offset medical expenses, household needs, and other unexpected life events that require funding. Since Rod’s income is essential to their family, this fund will help alleviate the financial stress that comes along with the high cost of cancer care.
