Forestville Teachers Strike For Students

My name is Talia Kilburn and I am a kindergarten teacher and bargaining member at ‪Forestville‬ School. The teachers of Forestville need your help. Over the last school year, the Forestville Teachers Union has engaged in negotiations with the Forestville School District. Despite tremendous effort and compromise on the part of the teachers union, the teachers still do not have a fair agreement with the district. Although the district revised their offer following the neutral fact-finder’s recommendation, they continued to disrespect the teachers at the bargaining table by being unwilling to negotiate. The teachers would love to avoid a strike, but we may not be able to at this point. If we strike, we obviously will not be getting paid for those days. We are asking for contributions to offset the potential financial burden this strike could have on already underpaid teachers. If we determine it is not necessary to strike, we will donate the money to other school districts in Sonoma County that may need to strike themselves.  The destinies of ALL teachers in Sonoma County and beyond are tied together.

Please consider the following points:
*The Forestville School District has spent less and less on their teachers for at least the last five years
* The Forestville Teachers Union’s proposals are in the interest of retaining and recruiting the best educators for our students.
*The District has the financial ability to pay for the union’s proposals.
*The high cost of living is a serious problem for our teachers.
*The Forestville teachers’ wages and healthcare do not compare favorably in the county, region, and the state.
