Anita Young Cancer Support Fund
In
1994, newlyweds Robert and Anita Young founded Red Feather Development Group, a
nonprofit housing organization that partners with American Indian communities
to find long-term solutions to the severe housing crisis facing many of their
communities. Over the past 16 years,
they have worked tirelessly with native families and hundreds of native and
non-native volunteers to construct desperately needed homes (specifically environmentally-sustainable
straw bale homes), wheel chair ramps for tribal elders and the disabled, as
well as several community buildings. It
has truly been inspirational to witness the results of Red Feather's endeavor
and to see all the native families that have benefited from this incredible
organization. The effort that Robert and
Anita have put into Red Feather demonstrates their devotion and commitment to
assist those less fortunate, and I am very proud of the enormous difference
they have made in the lives of others. To
date Red Feather is still continuing its incredible work, even after Robert and
Anita stepped away from their positions with this amazing grass-roots
organization.
Unfortunately,
in 2010 Anita was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma, a very aggressive
cancer that had entered her lymph system.
Over the past 2 ½ years, Anita has undergone two surgeries, radiation
treatment, two rounds of chemotherapy and a recent experimental clinical trial
at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. As with many families facing a similar
medical crisis, I have witnessed first-hand how financially devastating this
has been for their family, which includes their 13-year old daughter, Skylar,
and their 5-year old son, Sawyer.
I'm
asking for your generous financial support of Anita's ongoing medical treatment
and all the associated expenses. No gift
is too small, and every dollar donated will help their family move past this
very scary and uncertain time. I would
appreciate if you could share information with your facebook friends and
family. Your thoughts and prayers are
also greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your help and generosity, and I wish you all a very happy, healthy and safe holiday season.
