Tristan Ready 2019 Fall Football Funds

Donation protected
My name is Tristan Ready I’m 17 years old and this past June I graduated high school. At the graduation ceremony I won the prestigious Ashfield Award, which is awarded to one singular student in the entire Ottawa Catholic School Board who displays academic excellence, great athletic achievement and maintains a positive attitude all while going through financial and mental hardships.

As all my classmates were celebrating going off to University here in Canada, I decommitted from Carleton University (in Canada) and was staying back for a post graduate year in order to be eligible for the NCAA which has always been my dream. Even though technically I had graduated I was gearing down for the most important season of my life, trying to fulfill my lifelong dream of earning a full scholarship to play Division 1 football in the US.

For the past 2 years (2017-2018 and 2018-2019) I have played with Football North which is an elite football program attached to St Joseph Catholic High School in Barrhaven. As I had heard from numerous Division 1 football programs that they liked me and there was a possibility of me earning a scholarship I decided to decommit from Carleton University in order to do another year of high school to make that happen, as I didn’t want to give up on my dream of playing Division 1 and then look back years later and think “what could have been”.

During Football North’s inaugural season in 2017 they had recruited me throughout the summer to come play for them and I told them both my parents were on long term disability and it was going to be nearly impossible to pay for it but they ensured me that they would work with me and help me pay for it. So I jumped on the opportunity knowing that it was my best option to develop as a football player and improve my chances of playing division 1.

My father who I lived with at the time was still on disability and would remain on disability due to his health declining. My brother and I had to take care of him even though we were both at school and I, being apart of this rigorous university prep program, was at the school from 8am to 9pm so coming home at night with homework and being tired from workouts and practice, making dinner was not the first thing I’d like to be doing, especially when a lot of the time we wouldn’t have any food in the fridge.

During that inaugural season my mother was basically forced back into the workforce and in very short notice was off to China to teach, because even though she was almost overqualified for jobs here in Ottawa, she lacked recent job experience so she would have been put on the teacher’s list and get the odd call here and there to supply teach which unfortunately would not be enough to support a family of 5. So I was living with my brother and my dad in Barrhaven while my mom was across the world (literally) trying to put food on the table for us and pay our rent.

With the conditions of where my mother was staying, with the air pollution and all that accumulated she had developed a heart condition and at one point the doctor told her she was at risk of dying. That’s when she came back to Ottawa with us, literally scared for her life, and now we were back to square one with no income. As a result, I was kicked out of Football North, because I couldn’t make payments, due to the extreme circumstances that had took place.

That summer, since I was kicked out the previous year I had no intention on returning because financially it would be impossible to pay for because it was 10,000$ and we could barely pay our rent. But one day in August about 3 days before training camp, I received a text from my best friends mom saying that one of my other best friends fathers had paid for my entire tuition, having heard my story and the situation I was in. I will be forever grateful to that man as this upcoming year changed my life.

However due to my parents separation in March 2018, it left me living alone with my mother who was forced into an awful financial situation, in a small apartment on the other end of Ottawa. So although the tuition was free I would be faced with the fact I would have to leave my house at 6 am and wouldn’t get home until 11:30pm, due to the fact I had to bus 2 hours there and back (4 hours total) everyday just to get to and from school. But I wasn’t going to pass up on this blessing and I decided to make the most of it.

I suited up this year and played my best season of football to date and started garnering a bunch of scholarships here in Canada and was finally starting to gain some attention in the US. I wrote the SAT and scored a 1140 which will get me into pretty much any school excluding some IVY league schools. And I had transformed into a completely different athlete and football player due to the development I had received through Football North. And on top of all this and the tough schedule I was faced with year round, I still maintained honour roll status.

So after this season I won Offensive MVP for my team and was ranked #4 in the country at my position. I reclassified to the class of 2020 and was getting ready to play my senior year again at Football North and I could almost feel my dream coming true of receiving a Division 1 offer as I was told by coaches that they just need to see senior film before they make a decision on offering me. Everything was beginning to fall into place and everything was starting to pay off.

Until about a week and a half ago, Football North execs came in and announced that they had folded for this upcoming year as they hadn’t fielded enough players to make up a roster. This decision left about 10 seniors without a place to play out there final year, but not only that, it was only a few days before camp that they made the announcement so scholarship funding for other prep schools in Canada and the US had already been spent and no more scholarships were readily available like they would be in May for example.

I have reached out to a bunch of schools and organizations since then, looking for a place to play my final year, with my dreams hanging in the ballot and I have came up with a few different options, but as stated above the scholarship funds have already been used up so wherever I go I will need to pay. Living with my single mother money isn’t very easy to come by to make ends meet let alone pay for my schooling.

I post this hoping to raise enough money for me to attend a prep school that travels to the US to play US competition so that I can finally achieve my dream of getting a full scholarship education. I believe everyone should chase their dreams no matter how far they may seem and I believe everyone should have equal opportunity to do so no matter where they come from. I’m hoping I can get some donations and make my dream come true and if you cannot donate, I totally understand but I would kindly ask that you please share this so it can reach as many people as possible.

At this moment I have 2 options, one being Champion Prep in Georgia an established prep school, giving me the opportunity to be seen everyday by D1 coaches due to the fact I’m actually in the US (4500$) and Canada Prep in St Catherines, Ontario, a relatively new prep school in Canada travelling and playing all their games in the US. Either way, I will need to make a decision by this Monday.

I would really appreciate any sort of donation but especially a share as it will truly go a long way!
Thank you to whoever read until the end I appreciate you and god bless.
