My Transition

I am Colton, a 21 year old guy, currently on my second year of Health and Social Care with the Open University. I am also a transgender male. This go fund me is to pay for consultations, referrals, transportation and the bulk is going towards gender affirming top surgery (medically known as subcutaneous mastectomy where breast tissue is removed to create a more masculine chest) My transition started in January 2019, I came out as my true self, I changed my name and continued building on myself. I went to my GP and had a refferal sent to the NHS gender identity clinic in October 2019, I have yet to receive any confirmation from them - the average waiting time for the NHS gender identity clinics is around two years. I decided to go privately with Gender GP and after setting up with them answering a lot of questions, an information gathering session and a couple sessions with their psychiatrists - I was diagnosed with gender dysphoria and prescribed testosterone! The next steps of my transition feel almost impossible. Gender affirming top surgery is an expensive process both mentally and physically, it is why I am using this go fund me. Getting top surgery would not only alleviate my dysphoria it will also mean I wont have to bind any more, easing pain in my back, giving my lungs a break, not overheating on warm days, be free to move my body. For me, having this surgery is a necessity. It is not a 'cure all' by any means, but, being able to look at my body without feeling disgusted by it, to be able to wear clothes that fit properly rather than hide my figure, to make me feel less alien in my own body - it would increase my quality of life and wellbeing beyond what I can find words to describe.
