Tyras Transition Fund

Hey, I’m am Tyra and I’m an 18-year-old trans woman of colour from Sydney Australia. I was raised as Ty in Sydney’s inner west by my single mother. I grew up in a one-bedroom apartment and my most vivid memories of adolescence are of me pacing around that bedroom, daydreaming of the independent, actualised and intelligent young girl I felt was meant to be my reality. I resonated with womanhood from as young as I could comprehend it, but it was at the start of puberty that I knew for sure I could see no future for myself as a male. Unfortunately, the people around me weren’t ready to hear that and after attempted “coming outs” I wasn’t ready to tell anymore. At 17 I told my mother that she can other support me pursuing HRT or be cut out and she eventually came around. The process of obtaining it is as long and I started HRT in March 2019. Unfortunately, I still went through 3-4 years of male puberty and have experienced debilitating dysphoria and depression because of it. My transition has been the most mentally transformative and draining experience I’ve been through. I stopped studying to take care of my mental health and am currently job searching so I can fund my transition and livelihood.

I have been hesitant to crowdfund for my transition but recently my dysphoria has gotten so intense that It’s severely affecting my daily life. I’m hoping to fund my laser hair removal and a portion of a subsequent tracheal shave (Adam's apple reduction) with any funds raised. Though both small, they would bring me a lot of peace. My mother helps with HRT expenses but she is also chronically ill and has to fund an insane amount of medication with benefits as our only income. I understand everyone is struggling and appreciate any help beyond what I can express. One day when I’m balling I’ll be donating to all you girls too. I’ll update on my financial situation as it progresses.
