Recovery & Healing For Megan

Donation protected
From Jeramy:

It was on our 24th year anniversary, when Megan received the call “You have Breast Cancer”.  I will always remember the look and tears on her face as she sat next to a curb hearing these words from her doctor.  I was completely devastated.  “Cancer” is a big and scary word and at that moment in time only the worst of what we know of cancer are the thoughts that were consuming our minds.  After that day we tried to enjoy the remaining days of our anniversary, but we decided to cut it short as we felt it was necessary to start informing our family of the news.

Since that day, we have learned so much about cancer and have had tremendous support from friends, family, and medical professionals.  What we had hoped for, initially, was that she would have a surgery, have the cancer tumor removed, and have a few radiation treatments, and be done! Unfortunately, the professionals discovered that cancer had spread, therefore “chemo” is unavoidable.  Megan started her first chemo treatment on Wednesday 9/25.  This will be now be part of our routine for the next 16 weeks, and then radiation treatment will follow.

We have had a tremendous amount of support from our friends and family for all this and really appreciate all you have done.  Many of you have asked for ways to offer support through all this and we mainly ask that you just continue as you have been, as you are what is helping us get through all this.  In addition, Megan has created a CaringBridge   site and really appreciates those of you who follow her and comment on her blogs.  We have also appreciated all the meals, flowers, gifts, prayers, and check-ins you have all given to us.  We also decided to share our some of our financial needs with you all and create an avenue for those of you who have offered to help financially and some of you had started donating financially through the CaringBridge site, not realizing that it was not going to us. Megan has also created Amazon wishlist  and an Etsy shop fundraiser  event which are other avenues to be involved in supporting her.

We have good insurance and are extremely thankful that most of our medical needs are covered, however we are quickly realizing much unexpected expenses, loss of income, and portions of medical bills that are not covered by our insurance.  This is creating some barriers for us and we hope that nothing would prevent us from celebrating a much needed 25th year anniversary, which we have been saving for quite some time.

It is hard to estimate what the impacts of this will be to us financially but we do anticipate that Megan will lose paid time from work given that during Chemo, there are many days she is unable to work and/or be in an environment where she is susceptible to germs (she is first point of contact at her work for sick children).  We are already receiving bills from medical providers that are not covered by insurance and we are discovering small things that are needed just to get through this chemo journey, such as changes to our diet, supplements, over the counter drugs, etc….

Thank you all again for your love and support!
