Keloid Journey For Christopher E. Singleton Sr.

Donation protected
My name is Christopher E. Singleton Sr. Since the age of 8, I’ve had to adjust to living with keloids. Last year because of my wife Toni, one of my dreams came true, and my son CJ was born on Nov. 3rd, 2018. On July 3rd, 2019, my body started doing some familiar and unfamiliar things. The scariest part of it all was hearing that my temperature was 106. My biggest fear was that I wasn’t going to make it through the night. This was all because the keloid behind my right ear got infected for the 3rd time, and it got into my bloodstream. I spent a total of 6 days in the hospital. A few days later, I was told about Dr. Jones, for probably the 3rd time. Prior to this moment, I let two things prevent me from pursuing him any sooner, doubt and fear. Doubt that they could be removed and stay away, as well the fear of not being able to take care of the financial portion of the procedure. I found out during my consultation, that my responsibility would be $3,000. It took me about a week and half, and a few nudges but I started a Go Fund Me, and the goal was reached within 19 hours. . I called the scheduler of surgical procedures and set up a surgery date. I had to take time off of work, to take care of appointments to ensure that my body was ready for surgery including one to NY. On Wednesday, Sept. 11th, 2019, I had a successful surgery!!! Dr. Jones and his team were able to remove most of it!!! Yes, I did say most of it... Because of the location the keloid, there wasn’t a lot of skin to work with. However, I can say the keloid is about 80% removed!!! At some point in December, I’ll be going back for part deux!!! How do I feel??? As of today, I feel a little bit more normal. My head is still a little bit tender, but near the keloid site, things feel “normal”. I had underestimated my recovery time. I had to take a week and a half off of work. Everyday out of work, means less money coming in, but the bills are still there... Lastly, I underestimated my hospital bill... With all that being said, I need to set another goal... My hospital bill alone is over $5,000... We have 2 payments left on CJ’s Doc Band... Childcare payments still have to be made... My wife also had/has to take off a few days of work during each procedure... Because the surgery only consisted of the part of the keloid behind my right ear, I’ll also need raise another $3,000 because the keloid over my left ear will have to wait until next year. Please pray, check in with me, donate if you can, share if you can... No donation is too small... every amount helps!!! Thanks in advance!!!
