Meet Miss Ariana Diaz she was diagnosed at 11 years old with stage 4 Metastatic Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her left femur that had already spread to her lungs. Ariana has been on 7 different chemotherapy drugs and has been in and out of the hospital (for weeks on end at times). In October 2018, she had an above the knee amputation. After nearly a full year of chemotherapy, on June 27, 2019, Ariana received her final round of chemo. We were very hopeful that the chemotherapy worked as the tumors had shrunk to almost nothing. She was finally getting a break from chemotherapy. Ariana's first scans were scheduled for October 7th. Unfortunately, the results were not positive. The tumors in her lungs were not only growing again, but spreading! Ariana was immediately scheduled for a thoracotomy, a lung surgery where they try and remove the tumors. Before the surgery, they did some additional testing. Sadly, it was discovered that Ariana's cancer had metastasized to her spine and it is inoperable. The thoracotomy was cancelled and we had to deliver the worst news to a 12 year old child! The doctors are unable to remove the cancer from her body and we aren't going to win this fight.
After many, many tears and with a broken heart, Ariana has been making her "bucket list". One of her wishes is to travel back to Wisconsin to visit her many relatives before she is too sick or in too much pain to enjoy it. She wants to "celebrate life" with those who can't be with her in New Mexico. Due to the very aggressive nature of this cancer, we are asking for your help to get her to Wisconsin as soon as possible. We have no idea how much longer she'll be feeling "ok", so we are trying to get her there as soon as possible. Time is not a luxury we are afforded, unfortunately. Thank you for helping Ariana receive one of her final wishes.
