Mads George Pomranky was born May 16, 2019 to Jenn and Derrick Pomranky. On November 1st, Mads was taken to his pediatrician due to congestion and goopy eyes. This pediatrician noticed the left side of his stomach was enlarged and ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed that Mads' spleen was enlarged. Blood work revealed his white blood cells were very elevated and his red blood cells were very low. Mads was diagnosed with leukemia on November 6th at just 5 months and 3 weeks old.
After a bone marrow biopsy on November 7th Mads was officially diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid leukemia) on November 13th. Thankfully Mads does NOT have the Philadelphia chromosome. His first of fifteen chemotherapy treatments began on November 15, 2019. Jenn and Derrick are still waiting to find out if his leukemia has gone into his central nervous system. Mads is at Comer Children's Hospital in Chicago and right where he needs to be for this fight.
For those of you who know Jenn and Derrick, I don't need to tell you what wonderful people they are. The hospital is an hour from their home and both have obviously been missing work. Because they are so far away from their family and hometown friends please consider donating to help them with the many expenses they are facing.
