Thai Elephant rescue-new sanctuary life!
Donation protected
I'm Tracey and in 2010 I visited Elephant Nature Park Sanctuary in Chiang Mai, Thailand after hearing of the incredible work Lek Chailert is doing to save abused and exploited elephants in her native country.
My goal of $8000 will be used to pay owners who are reluctant to sell their eles which are their only source of income.
Lek rescues elephants from lives of abuse, ill health and neglect at the hands of owners who exploit their elephants within the tourism and logging industries. She provides top vet care and a natural environment for rescued eles to live out their lives without chains of restraints of any kind. She also tirelessly attempts to educate the Thai people and tourists of the plight of Thai elephants, with the hope of improving the conditions and current practices in the future.
Elephants within the tourism industry suffer terrible ill health and injuries as a result of traffic accidents in crowded cities and being forced to perform dangerous and unnatural "tricks" for the amusement of tourists, who are often unaware of the abusive treatment which these elephants are subjected to.
Elephants that work in the logging industry can be drugged with huge doses of amphetemines to force them to work longer hours. These drugs cause often irreparable damage to the elephants' health. Many elephants suffer broken limbs which are not tended to by vets, resulting in debilitating and painful lifelong deformities.
Since my visit to ENP I made a promise to myself to raise enough money to save an elephant and allow it to live the rest of it's life surrounded by caring mahouts, fellow elephants and the peace of a life without servitude.
My trip to ENP was truly the best experience I have ever had.
Please help me to achieve my goal :)
