Guatemala Field School

Donation protected

Hi! I'm L, and I'm an anthropology student at North Carolina State University. This summer, I'm hoping to go on NCSU's Guatemala Field School. It's a sort of "practice run" for anthropology students (and others interested in exploring other cultures) to help us learn about how to do field work, how to put together proper ethnographies, how to form contacts, and so forth.

My proposed project centers around the Maya oil painters of Lake Atitlan. That picture is just a small sample of some of the incredible work this community does. I hope to spend the period watching these artists work and speaking to them about their inspirations, and how Lake Atitlan's thriving tourism industry shapes what they do. At the end of the field school, I will be compiling an ethnographic report, and a presentation to show my findings. I will also be earning six college credits in the process!

The full cost of the program will be $4600.00 US. At the moment, I have no funding officially, though I am in the process of writing both a grant proposal and applying for a scholarship. This trip is very important to my career and to me personally, so I've made this page to see if I can acquire all the necessary funds.

I'd be deeply grateful for any kind of contribution, no matter how small.
