Current Health Situation:
My name is Quána Madison. I'm a disabled teaching artist committed to promoting social, emotional and mental well-being in the ways I am able. You can learn more about me by visiting my website .
I'm raising funds to help with recovery costs related to health issues that I'm facing as of November 10th , 2020.
Surgery to Correct Capsular Contracture
I'm experiencing a very painful condition again related to my breast reconstruction, post double mastectomies. I am suffering from increasing pain, discomfort and tightness in my breasts and across my chest. Despite corrective surgery in January and February 2020, ----I developed a complication called Capsular Contracture .
On December 10th, 2020, I will undergo corrective surgery to address the capsular contracture.
Breast Cancer Biopsy
My breast oncologist discovered multiple suspicious nodules in my left breast that need to be biopsied. I am also undergoing breast biopsies on December 10th during my corrective surgery.
Complicated Recovery
My complex chronic illnesses complicate my recovery process. I have fibromyalgia , chronic fatigue syndrome myalgic encephalomyelitis CFS ME and autoimmune disease . Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain disorder that causes widespread pain, tenderness to touch, fatigue and brain fog. Chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalomyelitis (CFS/ME) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. It causes severe fatigue not improved by rest, post-exertional malaise (where symptoms get worse after any physical or mental activity), pain, dizziness, and brain fog. An autoimmune disease is a condition in which the immune system mistakenly attacks your own body.
The physical trauma of surgery impacts all my chronic illnesses and causes major flare ups in my fibromyalgia, CFS/ME and autoimmune disease conditions. A flare-up is an increase in intensity and/or increase in number of symptoms. These flare ups complicate my recovery process by amplifying both my chronic pain, fatigue and post-operative pain.
My chronic illnesses make my healing process slow and lengthy. Stress exacerbates my disabilities.
Significant rest, relaxation and a comprehensive holistic recovery practices are essential to my healing. I will be utilizing a combination of pain management strategies, physical therapy at home, art therapy, stress-management/relaxation techniques, nutritional healing, graded-activity management and rest.
