Red Bed Redemption: Help David Get a new Bed!

Donation protected
David Fowles is a member of the arts community in Melbourne, Australia, where he performs in theatre, short films and stand-up comedy. He’s currently recovering in hospital after a brutal knife assault in which he almost died. He has a broken neck and a multitude of wounds to his hands, arms, legs, chest, neck and back. Despite the severity, he’s doing amazingly well, surprising doctors (and himself) with his recovery. There are some question marks remaining over his mobility and surgery for his nerve damage is upcoming, but the outlook is good, and he is hopeful to eventually get back home and wash his own hair and, someday soon, hold up a microphone again. But, he does need some help. He will at least need a new bed when he finally gets home, and possibly some accessibility aids, and may have to move house. He’s set a goal and is keeping busy looking forward to his first Melbourne Fringe show in late 2020 - dramatically exclaiming “I might not stand on that stage, but I will be on that stage” before napping in his chair again. David is currently walking short distances about the hospital, so things look pretty optimistic! He’s looking forward to being reunited with his cat (who is in care) and is very grateful to the Victorian emergency services and public hospital system, having passed through the care of (dozens? hundreds?) of incredible heroes, without which he would not be alive. If you can make a contribution to his future, however small, he’ll find a way to thank you too! Finally, he asks that, if you can, please donate blood. Not everyone can, but David is alive today because some people do. Thank you! *** David wishes to express his gratitude to everyone who has donated so far, pushing the total past the initial $1000 goal in less than a day and the second $2000 goal in not much more. He continues to be amazed at people’s generosity, and wants people to know that writing thank-you notes has been a positive part of his day. Hell continue to keep everyone informed as to his treatment status in the comments below. He does not intend to “raise the goal” because, at this point, he doesn’t even know what he’ll need. If he blows past the needs for the bed, any care aids / potential new accommodation, and his goal to do a Fringe show, the extra funds will likely go towards turning his many creative ideas into a reality and, hopefully, creating a career for himself in whatever capacity it will turn out he has at the end of this. Thank you again.
