Tremayne “Duke” Clemons has been detained in Muscatine County Jail for the last 8 months for a crime he was proven not to commit! Please help us raise money to pay for a private attorney to help us free Duke!
Details:
Duke, a 28-year-old black man, was falsely accused of a shooting in Coralville, Iowa. He was Arrested on January 7, 2020 at 5:00pmCT.
While in custody, law enforcement questioned Duke about a shooting in which he had no connection. When law enforcement found the confirmed perpetrator, they continued to hold Tremayne in jail though it was proven there was no connection between Tremayne and the shooting.
Law enforcement then took an illegal pee sample. Upon finding marijuana in his system, they argue he was “under the influence” while purchasing a gun. This is not provable and Tremayne has a gun license and was purchasing a gun legally. Law enforcement is trying to convince Duke to plea guilty to this offense.
Duke had a clean record.
As of today, July 27, Duke has been unlawfully held in jail for 8 months, without bail or bond. He has been in limited contact with his family, including his fiance and young daughter. Since his arrest, there has been no press about Duke or this injustice. At the beginning of this week, local law enforcement denied him bail. At the beginning of this week, local law enforcement denied Duke's request for bail.
The private defender has told our family Duke may be subject to a sentence of 20 years up to life. Please help us raise money so we can support #JusticeforDuke with a private attorney that will fight against these discriminative lies and injustice! Any amount will help, large and small. 100% of these proceeds will go directly to the attorney fees for Duke's case.
In thanks,
Duke's family
