Help Nyah Be Laid To Rest

Nyah Chatman (February 14, 1994 - February 8, 2020) was taken too soon, shortly before her 26th birthday. She was the loving daughter of Debra Hadnot-Smith and Billy Chatman. She leaves behind her son, Alonzo, her sisters Mary, Khiara, Taylor and Sheridan, her brothers Dorries, Benjamin and Ira, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, a large extended family and many friends.
She cared deeply about everyone that she met, and loved her family dearly, especially her one year old son. She loved being a mom. She was the youngest sibling of a large family, and they cherished her. She had a particularly close bond to her twin sister, Taylor, so close, in fact, that in December, her sister had a premonition in a dream that Nyah had died. Her favorite colors were yellow and red, and she was a minimalist. She was goofy, had a huge heart, and her beautiful smile could light up a room. She would befriend anyone, and help anyone. She could always make lemonade out of lemons, and could always make the best out of every situation.
She loved to read. She never learned to drive a car, but jumped at the opportunity to travel. She lived in St. Louis, where she got her CNA license through JobCorp. She attended Bryant & Stratton for business management, and her family was very proud of her accomplishments.
Nyah, like many of us, also had her struggles. She was greatly affected by the death of her loving mother who died the day after her birthday. At the age of 14, she was diagnosed with Bipolar Depression. At the time of her death, she was in a domestic violence partnership, and was murdered by the brother of her son’s father. She was clutching onto her son Alonzo when she was shot and killed.
Because of the sudden departure of Nyah, her family is asking for financial support for her burial. We will provide updates with exactly where the monies will be spent as the funeral transpires. Her family would like to thank you for your support during this incredibly difficult time.
