Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina is a new local restaurant which opened the last week of January in Lethbridge, Alberta. We are a pop culture pub style pizza and donair shop. We are a small family friendly establishment working hard to navigate the Covid-19 Crisis. We originally started this campaign because we were concerned as a small business we wouldn't survive the crisis. We decided this year to do something special for May the 4th in celebration of our new business and Star Wars because we are basically the Alberta Star Wars Headquarters.
Our Star Wars celebration took a drastic turn for the worst however when the old republic arrived to takeout our storm trooper. One of our Staff members who was willing and eager to participate as our storm trooper was confronted by the police after a 911 tip. The officer arrived and she was completely compliant in their directions. She dropped her plastic blaster, put her hands in the air and moved away from the dangerous plastic blaster. The 3 armed officers felt so in harms way that they persisted to elevate the situation further which ultimately ended up with our employee face down in handcuffs. Thankfully our employee was able to escape with a few minor scratches and bruises, but the long term effects are still yet to be known. Our primary focus here is to ensure she is doing ok and taken care of throughout this crisis and in the healing process. It is our plan to keep her on staff as she is an amazing employee. We hope that we are going to be able to cover her wages and allow her to stay home as long as possible so she can heal physically, and emotionally
We only recently opened early in the year. We invested so much time, energy, and money into making this place amazing for everyone to enjoy. We were first hit with the Covid-19 crisis which made business come to a near stop and prevent our business from growing in its early months. We then began to see the light at the end of the tunnel when the Alberta Government announced that we would be able to open again on May 14th we got optimistic and planned an amazing day to honor Star Wars and promote our new growing business just to have this terrible incident happen. We are now banding together as a team to navigate the path going forward. All of my staff including myself experienced and extremely stressful situation which caused an incredible amount of anxiety for all who were involved. We will continue to move forward and heal and continue to build this amazing little place. The force is strong here and were all in this together.
Our goal within this campaign is to have funds available to continue to pay our Awesome Storm Trooper while she takes time off to recoup and recover. Some of the funds will also be used to support the other staff members who are also dealing with the stress and anxiety that has come with this entire experience We want to ensure that everyone that was working that day will be taken care of and funds will be available to cover any costs associated that arise from needed counseling or other mental health supports. As originally planned with this fund raiser any funds not needed for our staff will continue to go back into making this place stay open and stay amazing.
Monies will be distributed as needed to our trooper and any and all staff members who end up with any expenses associated with what happened on that crazy May the 4th.
We really appreciate the outstanding kind words and support we have received from all over the world and will continue to work hard to get through this all. Thank you again for all the support and we appreciate all of you.
