Doughnates & Coffee: Tesla Gigafactory New York
Donation protected
( Update 5/28/2020: While our initial plan and proposal was to raise funds so as to gift Tesla employees with donuts and coffee, we mutually decided to focus the funds raised directly on the local community that Tesla's Gigafactory New York (GFNY) operates in. Through communication with leadership at GFNY, TOCNYS will be working in collaboration to donate the funds to Food Bank of WNY. )
Why: In a tweet sent on 3-27-2020 from the Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, the mayor thanked Elon Musk for his pledge to manufacture and donate “Hundreds of ventilators to New York City and State, including our public hospitals.” Elon responded, “You’re most welcome. Credit to the Tesla team. Will do our best to help in any way.” New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has announced that the state has about 3,000 to 4,000 ventilators on hand and has purchased about 7,000 more. It needs a minimum of 30,000 additional ventilators within the next few weeks which is when the outbreak is expected to peak. With such a short period of time to act, leaders around the country must come together to work on a solution. Tesla and SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk, will lead manufacturing and donating all ventilators based out of the Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York. Due to the nature of circumstances, the workers will be under great stress in preparing the ventilators as quickly as humanly possible. In partnering with Tesla Owners Club New York State (TOCNYS), our goal is to show appreciation to these workers for their efforts in saving the lives of our fellow New Yorkers. What: Through working with our partners at Tesla Owners Club New York State (TOCNYS), we’ve decided to start this fundraiser to purchase doughnuts and coffee from a local small business in the Buffalo region where the Gigafactory is located in New York. Due to the economic burdens that this pandemic has had on many small businesses, this fundraiser is also a way to assist those small businesses who are struggling to stay afloat. “Doughnates and Coffee” will be a way for all of us to thank the hardworking individuals that will be working tirelessly to manufacture and deliver the medical equipment that will be crucial to the fight of the COVID-19. The funds raised for this campaign will be split over a few shifts for the factory workers, this is to ensure that everyone who is working on this effort is able to be shown appreciation. If we are able to exceed our expectations for donations, we Pledged to work with multiple local business as well. Who: TOCNYS is a 501(c)(7) sanctioned by Tesla for the state of New York. We are a group of Tesla owners that want to continue to promote the benefits and impact of electric vehicles, but during this time of need were asking YOU to take a moment and donate the price of a cup of coffee and a doughnut to those that will be “building the machine that makes the machine” that will save a life. This is no small task, and we thank everyone that is a part of the solution!
