Food Share: Stock The Bin

Leave what you can—take what you need!
The Germantown Food Share Initiative
We are seeking $1,500.00 to sustain the purchasing of non perishable items and toiletries to keep our Food Share Bin stocked for a minimum of 6 more months.
A Food Share Bin is a waterproof bin placed outside of a home with non perishable food items and toiletries. Neighbors aware asked to leave what they can and take what they need. During this time the bin has been made public through digital groups and word of mouth.
At the start of the Covid-19 crisis many friends and neighbors expressed concerns over jobless, fiscal catastrophe, rent challenges, hunger, and more. This pandemic has touched all of us across the globe and the only way through, is together.
There are many elements of this crisis that have rendered us all feeling helpless but fighting hunger in our neighborhoods is something we can do together. No person or child should ever feel food insecurity in our nation but especially now when normal ways of accessing food for the most vulnerable are limited.
So many neighbors have dropped off items and offered to make food runs to the grocery store. Friends from afar have reached out and made donations via Venmo too. Those gifts of money and self have made a huge difference in covering the ongoing expense of keeping the bin stocked but as the weeks have trickled on the demand is becoming greater and the bin is emptying faster.
Thus far, my family has covered a lion share of the goods but the demand is high and we can’t sustain spending $50+ dollars a week on extra groceries for an indefinite period of time.
Over the next few weeks we will be making a more permanent food share box that will stay on our property post Covid-19. To my knowledge there are currently two more food share locations in my neighborhood that have grown from this initiative.
If you are intersted in making your own food share bin we are happy to help you set it up.
Thank you for your love and support of the people of Germantown. We grow stronger when we stand together.
Be safe, be well, and I can’t wait to hug you one day soon.
