2020 AHS MATE ROV Internationals
Donation protected
Our team has built underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for the past five years and have won the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) regional competition for the past 4 years which qualified us to proceed to the international competition level against 18 countries. We have won that competition twice: 2017 and 2019. Because of our success in ROV, work in fostering interest in technology, and spread of environmental awareness to our community, we won the 2019 Aptos Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Achievement of the Year. Here is the video about our team that was shown at the annual awards dinner: https://vimeo.com/367145274
For the competition each year, we build an underwater ROV designed to tackle real world engineering and scientific issues, such as contaminated drinking water, ocean debris, and marine animal extinction. We create a marketing display, technical documentation, and an oral presentation to advertise our robot and its unique capabilities to a panel of experts in the field. The MATE underwater robotics competition, not only allows us to invent technologies to solve urgent problems, but we also learn essential engineering skills such as coding and soldering which will be instrumental to future careers in STEM. The marketing display and oral presentation develop our skills in promoting awareness and public speaking which we will take with us through the rest of our lives.
Because we won the international championship twice at the high school level, this year, we qualified to compete at the Explorer (college-level) division, which increases the complexity and cost of our ROV. Qualifying for the college level also guarantees us entry into the International competition to be held in Philadelphia this June. Right now, we are seeking funds to support the build of our ROV and travel to the international competition in Philadelphia. We are hoping you can help us by sponsoring our team with a tax deductible donation. Sponsorship opportunities include:
For any amount, we will proudly display your logo on our marketing poster and a technical report. We are incredibly grateful to our community that make this experience possible. Please don’t hesitate to contact us .
